Report fraud to authorities

Modified on Thu, Oct 30, 2025 at 10:15 PM

If you experience theft, assault, or a scam, contact local police or on‑site security (for example, campus or venue security). Share any evidence you collected.

If you’re in danger

Call your local emergency number (for example, 911) right away.

When to report

  • Physical harm, threats, or stalking

  • Robbery, stolen items, or property damage

  • Fraud, impersonation, or payment scams
  • Sale of illegal, unsafe, or recalled items

How to report

  • Contact local police or on‑site security using the emergency or non‑emergency line for your area.

  • Tell them what happened—what, when, where, and who was involved.

  • Share evidence—photos, videos, receipts, bank or payment records, chat screenshots, listing links, and the meeting location.

  • Ask for a case number, and write down the officer or unit handling your report.

Tips to reduce risk

  • Meet in a public, well‑lit place, and bring a friend

  • Inspect and test items before paying

  • Use traceable payment methods, and get a simple receipt

  • Trust your instincts—walk away if something feels off
